Brent Venables confirms WR Jayden Gibson is no longer with program
OU wide receiver Jayden Gibson is no longer a part of the football program, coach Brent Venables confirmed on Wednesday during the SEC teleconference.
Gibson has not played a snap for the Sooners the past two seasons. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in August of 2024. He then re-injured it during March of 2025, leading him to miss all of summer and fall camp. Gibson was not expected to be a contributor this season due to his injuries.
In 2023, Gibson’s second season at OU, he totaled 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns. There was some hope that Gibson could eventually turn into a star receiver for the Sooners.

But the injuries never allowed that to happen. And after the injuries, he was noticeably absent from many team events, including practices and games. He is expected to enter the transfer portal.
The OU receiver room is pretty much unaffected by the departure. Oklahoma has had decent production from the group. Arkansas transfer Isaiah Sategna leads all receivers with 420 yards and three touchdowns, which is more than any OU receiver had last season. Deion Burks, Keontez Lewis and Jaren Kanak all have over 200 yards receiving this year.
