An Intriguing Week for Oregon Baseball and Softball
We are winding down on the Spring sports seasons. And both Oregon softball and baseball teams had very unique weeks.
There is some big news around softball moving into the postseason. And despite not faring well in last weeks Big Ten tournament, there will be a regional in Eugene. And a tough path for Oregon to advance.
Meanwhile baseball were tested with a three-game series vs No. 1 ranked UCLA. Here is a look at this last week for the two teams.
The Big Ten outdoor track and field championships begin on Friday in Lincoln.
Softball
On Thursday Oregon started off the Big Ten tournament with an opening game against Wisconsin. Unfortunately for the Ducks, it was a one-and-done for the ladies in that tournament. The Badgers surprised Oregon and bounced them from the tournament with an 11-9 victory.
It was not a great loss for the Ducks who were expected to make a little more noise in that tournament.
But it did not keep Oregon from hosting a regional in Eugene. Which is the big news from the weekend.

No. 14 ranked Oregon will host Mississippi State, St. Mary’s and Idaho State. It’s currently the toughest ranked regional per SoftballAmerica.com. The regional is set to begin this Friday in Eugene. Oregon finishes the season with a 40-12 record and 20-4 conference record.
“It’s justified that one of the last four hosts has the toughest regional. If Oregon wins its first game, which is by no means guaranteed, the Ducks will face one of Peja Goold or Alyssa Faircloth from Mississippi State, or Saint Mary’s Odhi Vasquez — three pitchers who made our latest Top 25 Pitcher Power Rankings. If the offense isn’t ready, they’ll have a hard time scoring. Idaho State also nearly upset the Ducks back in February, forcing the game into extra innings. Oregon dropping the first game would certainly make it an uphill climb.“
Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 5 PM PST.
Baseball
It was a benchmark test for Oregon baseball this weekend. With the Grand Canyon two-game series cancelled, it was a trip to Los Angeles to battle No. 1 ranked UCLA starting Friday. And it did not start off pretty with Oregon losing 11-1. Game two was much better however with Oregon pulling off a 9-6 win.
Sunday however was a roller coaster. The Ducks led 6-1 headed into the 6th inning. But UCLA scored 3 runs in the next two winnings to cut that lead to 6-4 headed into the 8th inning. The Ducks went scoreless and UCLA erupted for 5 runs ultimately winning the game 9-6. A brutal ending to that series for the Ducks.
Next up is a three-game series with USC at home beginning on Thursday.
The Ducks are now the No. 16 ranked team in the country per D1baseball.com. They sit 36-14 on the season with an 18-9 conference record.
