OU wide receiver Gavin Freeman enters transfer portal
OU wide receiver Gavin Freeman is entering the transfer portal, he announced on Tuesday.
The junior receiver played in 26 games during his first two seasons at Oklahoma, primarily on special teams as a punt returner. As a receiver, he caught 22 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown. As a punt returner, he returned 18 punts for 122 yards and one touchdown — an 82-yarder against Arkansas State in the 2023 season opener. Freeman missed the entire spring with an injury.
This might be a surprise portal entry to some, considering Freeman’s role on the team last season. But OU has a deep receiver room, with several key players returning and the addition of Purdue transfer Deion Burks. Freeman also struggled in the back half of the season, with a couple of muffed punts and averaging only 6.8 yards per return for the season.

The Sooners will be looking for a new punt returner next season. In the spring, Peyton Bowen, Dez Malone, Deion Burks and Jaquaize Pettaway all appeared to be competing for the job. When Andrel Anthony returns from his ACL injury, he also expected to be in the mix.
Freeman joins Justin Harrington, Shane Whitter and Jasiah Wagoner as the only scholarship Sooners to enter the portal.
