OU linebacker Kobie McKinzie plans to enter transfer portal
With the OU season coming to a close Friday night, now you hit that time of the football calendar. Who is staying? Who is going?
The first departure? Linebacker Kobie McKinzie informed On3 on Sunday afternoon that he intends to hit the transfer portal.
This season, McKinzie logged a career-high 32 tackles, a career-high 6.5 tackles for a loss and a sack. He was a disruptive force on an Oklahoma defense that helped power the team to a College Football Playoff appearance.
McKinzie was one of several recruits from the 2022 class to stay at OU the whole time. Going through all the ups and downs, culminating in the CFP berth. The season came to an end in a 34-24 loss to Alabama in the first round Friday night at OU. He was someone who absolutely had the pulse of the locker room.
In the last three years, McKinzie has totaled 84 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and four passes defended. He redshirted after seeing action in four games, primarily on special teams, as a freshman in 2022.

Prior to enrolling at Oklahoma, McKinzie was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 231 overall recruit in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus. He also checked in as the No. 24 linebacker in the class and the No. 39 overall player from the state of Texas, hailing from Lubbock (Texas) Cooper.
McKinzie is the first to announce since the season concluded, but there were a couple of other players who have already said they’ll hit the portal.
Wide receiver Jayden Gibson and linebacker/cornerback Kendel Dolby will also be hitting the portal, as soon as it opens.
Gibson has not played at OU in the last two seasons. Dolby played sparingly this season before deciding he wanted to redshirt to keep his eligibility for the 2026 season at another school.
