OU at Tennessee final availability report: Last word on Kobie McKinzie

It’s all about the linebackers for the final availability report between OU and Tennessee. More specifically? OU starting backer Kobie McKinzie and Tennessee anchor Avion Carter.

McKinzie and Carter both being designated as ‘game-time decisions.’

McKinzie was probable Thursday evening before being downgraded to questionable Friday evening. You sort of thought the game-time decision label was going to be used for McKinzie. You know full well he really wants to play. Imagine he goes through pregame warmups and gets an idea of how he feels.

He injured his groin in the first quarter of last week’s loss vs. Ole Miss and did not return.

McKinzie is vital for the defensive communication for the Sooners. He has been the guy with the green dot. And what should be an incredibly raucous environment, all communication will be key.

If it’s not McKinzie? Get ready for a heavy load of Owen Heinecke and Sammy Omosigho. OU has the depth, sure, but you’d love to have McKinzie on a night like this.

Carter update…

Moving things over to the Vols, sounds like Carter will give it a go. On3’s Pete Nakos reported earlier Saturday morning the goal is for Carter to attempt to play, but on a limited basis.

He is battling a turf toe injury and missed the Vols’ victory at Kentucky last week.

OK, that’s it. No more talking about the Neyland Stadium crowd. We’re done mentioning who is in and who is out. Time to football.

And we shall. OU makes its first trip to Knoxville in 10 years in a de facto playoff elimination game coming up. It’s the Sooners and Vols at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.

Editor’s Note: SoonerScoop, of course, will have full coverage of the top-25 showdown after the game. Is OU still alive in the playoff picture? Or the Sooners licking their wounds heading into the bye week? Time to find out.
