Nebraska center Oleg Kojenets enters the transfer portal
The first domino of offseason attrition fell for Nebraska basketball on Tuesday, as redshirt freshman center Oleg Kojenets entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The 7-foot, 232-pound native of Lithuania appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 0.6 points and 0.7 rebounds in 3.4 minutes per contest.
Kojenets, who redshirted his first season in 2021-22, scored a season-high three points in seven minutes off the bench in NU’s loss at Maryland on Jan. 28.
He played 15 minutes in Nebraska’s preseason exhibition game at Colorado on Oct. 31. The Western Reserve (Ohio) Academy product finished with six points on 3-of-4 shooting, three rebounds, and a blocked shot in his first true collegiate test.

Kojenets ended up with a team-high plus/minus of 12 in the loss to the Buffalos. He was the only Nebraska player to post above a 1.
“I thought he was really good,” head coach Fred Hoiberg said after the CU game. “I was really happy with Oleg. He’s shown a lot of promise, and he’s gotten better since he’s been in Lincoln. He’s putting in a ton of time, and it’s good to see it pay off when he gets his first real minutes out there.
“Yeah, he was definitely a bright spot for us tonight.”
His departure leaves the Huskers with three open scholarships heading into the offseason. Nebraska must also replace seniors Derrick Walker, Sam Griesel, and Emmanuel Bandoumel.
NU currently has one 2023 signee in IMG (Florida) Academy wing Eli Rice.
