Make some more room in Nebraska basketball’s rapidly filling trophy case.

After guiding the Huskers to their best season in school history, the Associated Press named Fred Hoiberg its 2025-26 National Coach of the Year on Friday.

During Hoiberg’s seventh campaign in Lincoln, NU posted a program-best record of 28-7, earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament win, and made its first Sweet 16 appearance.

He becomes the first Husker men’s coach and just the 10th Big Ten coach to earn the honor in The Associated Press award’s 59-year history.

Nebraska also set program records for conference wins (15) and conference road wins (seven). Sparked by their 20-0 start to the year, the Huskers also set a school-record 24-game winning streak dating back to last season.

NU finished second in the Big Ten standings, marking its best finish in more than 30 years.

This marks Hoiberg’s second national honor, as he won the Jim Phalen National Coach of the Year award in 2023-24. He also took home Big Ten Coach of the Year (coaches) this season for the second time in three seasons (2023-24).

Hoiberg will receive the award on Friday in Indianapolis at the NCAA Final Four.
