Michigan State lands Eastern Carolina transfer DB Dontavius Nash
Michigan State continued to add to its 2025 roster when it landed transfer portal defensive back Dontavius Nash, formerly of Eastern Carolina and North Carolina. Nash announced his commitment via social media on Tuesday.
Nash (6-2, 185) has one year of eligibility remaining. He entered the portal on April 16 and publicly reported one offer from Kent State.
Nash appeared in 12 games for Eastern Carolina last season, logging 24 total tackles (15 solo), four pass deflections and one interception in 430 snaps (352 defense, 78 special teams). He recorded 34 total tackles (21 solo), two pass deflections and one interception in 12 games in 2023. Prior to that, Nash logged four tackles in four games across two seasons at North Carolina.
Nash played cornerback and safety during his time at Eastern Carolina. He will likely begin his Michigan State tenure at safety, with the ability to add depth in the cornerback room as well.
A former four-star recruit out of Gastonia (N.C.) Hunter Huss High School, Nash was the No. 378 player in the 2021 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the No. 31 safety and No. 23 player from North Carolina.

Michigan State also added former Bowling Green safety Tracy Revels during the spring transfer period. Revels (6-1, 185) had 40 tackles and one pass deflection last fall.
Michigan State did lose veteran defensive back Dillon Tatum (Northwestern) to the transfer portal, but the Spartans will return starters Malik Spencer and Nikai Martinez at the safety position, along with Justin Denson, Armorion Smith and Khalil Majeed, among others.
Jeremiah Hughes and Ade Willie, among others, have been working at the nickel position this spring. Revels and Nash could both provide depth at that position, too.
Michigan State also added former junior college standout Anthony Pinnace at cornerback earlier this spring. Pinnance will compete with Texas State transfer Joshua Eaton, Chance Rucker, Andrew Brinson, UConn transfer Malcolm Bell and Eastern Illinois transfer NiJhay Burt, among others, at the cornerback position this fall.
