Michigan State lands Ohio edge Jack Schuler
Michigan State received another commitment when 2027 edge Jack Schuler chose the Spartans early Thursday morning. Schuler (6-5, 240) announced his commitment via social media.
The Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Watterson product picked Michigan State over offers from Iowa State, UConn and Toledo, among others. He’s a three-star prospect and the No. 2,014 recruit in the 2027 class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. Schuler is also the No. 180 edge and No. 112 player from Ohio in his class.
Schuler is Michigan State’s seventh 2027 commitment. The Spartans received another big defensive line addition in three-star Chicago edge Ohimai Ozolua late last week.
Michigan State also holds commitments from Ohio quarterback Eli Stumpf, Ohio running back Savior Owens, in-state offensive linemen Jack Carlson and Grant Adloff and New Jersey safety Ty’ire Clark.
Killop’s take
Schuler wasted no time filling the second rush end spot in the Spartan class. Position coach Andrew Bindelglass and defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere now have a formidable duo at the position between Schuler and Ozolua. Ozolua is more versatile, with the ability of developing into an every-down defensive lineman, while Schuler could develop into more of a pass rush specialist/strong side defensive end.

At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, Schuler provides Michigan State with large frame to mold. He comes from a top high school program in Bishop Watterson, so he’s expected to arrive in East Lansing as a well-coached prospect. Bishop Watterson has won back-to-back state championships, while Schuler earned First Team All-District honors last fall.
Schuler logged an impressive 84 tackles (20 for a loss), nine sacks and eight pass deflections in 2025. He said he’s gained 25 pounds this offseason after lining up at 220 pounds as a junior last fall. The added weight should translate to the field as a senior.
Michigan State has had an impressive start to its defensive line class, in my opinion. With Ozolua and Schuler in the fold, DeLattiboudere and Bindelglass can now shift their focus to the defensive tackle position, with another defensive end on the table for later down the line.
