Michigan State add Purdue transfer WR TJ Sheffield
Michigan State received a commitment from former Purdue wide receiver TJ Sheffield, he announced via social media Monday night. The redshirt senior receiver will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Sheffield caught 32 passes for 381 yards and two touchdowns this past season. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound speedster has 118 receptions, 1,209 yards and 11 touchdowns in 46 career games with the Boilermakers.
The Thompson’s Station, Tenn., native comes to Michigan State following a midweek visit to East Lansing. Sheffield is the third offensive weapon head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff have added through the transfer portal since their arrival.
Former Oregon State tight end Jack Velling committed to the Spartans earlier today, while freshman quarterback Aidan Chiles announced his decision last weekend. Velling hauled in 29 passes last season, tallying 438 yards and eight touchdowns.

Sheffield also brings experience in the return game with him to Michigan State. The redshirt senior has 26 career kick return attempts totaling 505 yards. He has also attempted 32 punt returns in his career, grossing 261 yards.
Sheffield signed with Purdue as a three-star prospect. He was the No. 588 ranked player nationally, according to the 2019 On3 Industry Rankings. Sheffield was also the No. 87 wide receiver and the No. 19 prospect in the state of Tennessee.
