Johnny Estelle post game summary: Stanford
West Virginia assistant Johnny Estelle joined the post game radio show following the 82-77 win over Stanford in the College Basketball Crown and WVSports.com provides a summary of what was said.
–Estelle said that people got a chance to see what they get to see every day with these guys. These guys came to West Virginia for a chance to play for championships and to play for this state and that’s who they are.
–Estelle thought that West Virginia kind of got in a rut and Stanford made some shots. They capitalized on the Mountaineers having empty possessions and it got West Virginia out of a rhythm.
–Estelle said they wanted somebody else to make a play by doubling Ebuka Okorie. West Virginia wanted to make somebody else beat them. The ear muff defense makes other people be put in position to try to beat them. Estelle said the belief in these guys and to their credit they followed the game plan. The players made the game plan work and that’s what good players do.
—Honor Huff is usually known for his three-point shot but it wasn’t going tonight so you have to find other ways to win. He’s just a winner. Huff answered the bell on defense as well and answered the bell.
—Treysen Eaglestaff came out there and had a different look about him. He made some big threes, some big shots and got some rebounds. That’s the best part about coaching you get to see the best and sometimes not so good but you get to do it again. It’s outstanding to see young people come together and play for something bigger than themselves.
–Estelle had the scout tonight and he plans to do some live scouting tonight and enjoy this win.
