West Virginia basketball now knows the field that the program will compete against in the Players Era Championship this coming season in Las Vegas, NV.

The Mountaineers will be featured in the Players Era Eight as part of a reimagining of the event, which will be televised by ESPN. It will be held the week of Nov. 16 and, along with the Mountaineers, will feature Florida, Houston, Kansas, Auburn, Notre Dame, Rutgers and UNLV.

The news was part of the announcement of a multi-year agreement between the Players Era and ESPN as the overall field will expand to 24 teams and also include a separate 16-team event Thanksgiving week.

That bracket tournament will include Michigan, Alabama, Gonzaga, St. John’s, Louisville, Tennessee, Iowa State, Miami, Texas Tech, Baylor, Maryland, TCU, Oregon, Creighton, San Diego State and Kansas State

The bracket-style format is a shift from the previous one, which had teams play two games with the third determined by record and scoring margin.

The schedules and venues are expected to be announced later in the off-season.

The Mountaineers are entering year two under head coach Ross Hodge and are coming off a 21-14 campaign, which included the College Basketball Crown Championship.
