The UConn football staff added another recruit to the 2026 class after successfully hosting a former Toledo Rockets’ commitment.

2026 three-star Walsh Jesuit (OH) safety Grant Blascak announced his commitment to the Huskies on Instagram after reopening his recruitment. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound safety is a dynamic player who has drawn a wide array of attention. Toledo, Buffalo, Kent State, and UMass offered Blascak while Kentucky recently entered the fold.

Currently Blascak is considered to be the 1538th rated player in the 2026 class and the 150th safety. The defensive back is the 80th rated recruit in the state of Ohio. Blascak committed to Toledo back in March after successfully meeting with the staff multiple times.

However, the coaching change that saw Coach Jason Candle head to UConn led to Blascak ultimately not signing with the Rockets. Instead the safety reopened his recruitment and kept the new Rockets’ staff in mind.

After announcing the reopening of his recruitment, new programs began to circle the safety. Among the new options were the Kentucky Wildcats who offered Blascak his first opportunity to play SEC football moving forward. Blascak was scheduled to take an official visit with Kentucky last week before stopping by Toledo to meet with the new staff in person.

In addition to visiting Kentucky and Toledo, Blascak also visited UConn after receiving a scholarship from the staff. Instead of trying his luck elsewhere, the safety decided to stay close to the staff he originally opted to join. The safety announced his commitment to the Huskies days after the staff brought in fellow 2026 class recruits Owen Winder and Martece Smith late in the cycle.

Blascak will not only join Winder and Smith but will also join transfer portal additions Tracy Revels (Michigan State), Steve Miller (USC), Moussa Kane (Duke), Braedyn Moore (Toledo), Jayden Price (Toledo).
