Armwood (Florida) three-star defensive back Kallen Martinez has decommitted from UConn Football and reopened his recruitment, he told the UConn Report.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pounds safety prospect pledged his commitment to the Huskies since June 14th following an Official Visit to campus, where he chose UConn over the likes of offers from Florida Atlantic, FIU, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Southern Miss, Toledo, UNLV, and Wofford.

“Initially it was a shock for sure, but that’s college football for you,” Martinez told the UConn Report. “I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment with the uncertainty of all of the coaches at UConn and I am in high hopes for the future!”

Martinez is the first decommit from the Huskies class since the news came out on Wednesday morning that Jim Mora was leaving to become the new head coach at Colorado State.

He also becomes the fifth prospect to decommit from UConn Football this recruiting cycle joining running back Jayden Fox (UNLV commit), wide receiver Quayd Hendryx (Minnesota commit), edge rusher Jacquey Ferguson Jr. and cornerback Javion Romer, the latter two remain uncommitted at this time.

This news also leaves the 2026 recruiting class with just one wide receiver in Deion Thomas and 13 total commits. The Huskies 2026 class is currently ranked No. 97 in the country per the Rivals Industry rankings.
