Memphis has hired Gabriel Harris to be the program’s first general manager, the school announced Tuesday.

Harris was previously the general manager for the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gabriel Harris to Memphis,” said Penny Hardaway. “Gabriel brings a modern approach and new perspective to roster management, along with valuable experience at the professional level. His leadership and vision will be instrumental as we continue to build a championship-caliber program.”

Harris will join Memphis after Stockton’s playoff run is over. The G League playoffs continue through April 13, if Stockton makes the Finals.

“I’m excited for this next chapter with the University of Memphis. The history, expectations, and tradition of Memphis basketball are what drew me to this opportunity, and I look forward to working with Coach Hardaway to help build a highly successful program,” Harris said.

Stockton developed multiple NBA players under Harris’ leadership. Dylan Cardwell, Keon Ellis, and Jaylen Nowell all earned standard NBA contracts after their time in the G League.

In his role at Memphis, Harris will be responsible for roster management, revenue share strategy, player evaluation and recruiting operations.
