Texas Tech coaches have picked up some more special teams help, with the latest roster addition coming via former UCLA punter Will Karoll.

Karoll will arrive in Lubbock after spending his first two seasons as a Tulane Green Wave and the most recent as a UCLA Bruin. The Red Raiders were in search of a punter following the graduation of Jack Burgess, and they went back to the well Down Under in order to do it.

Karoll hails from Mosman, Australia and was a member of Prokick Australia, the same American football punting academy that Burgess trained at back home prior to playing college football.

Karoll is coming off arguably his best season yet in Westwood in which he punted 44 times for 1,913 yards (43.5 average). He was added to the Ray Guy Award Watch List in late October and ended the season making the 2025 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team. He was also UCLA’s primary holder on field goals and extra-points over the first five games of the season.

Over his two seasons at Tulane, Karoll punted 85 times for 3,690 yards (43.4 average) and was an All-AAC honorable mention selection following the 2023 season.

Karoll will arrive in Lubbock with one season of eligibility remaining, and will join a special teams room that includes kicker Stone Harrington, kicker Jacob Hand, punter/kicker Ian Hershey, long snapper Rylan Vagana and long snapper Reed Price.

Karoll becomes the 21st commitment for Texas Tech in the 2026 transfer portal cycle, a class that is currently ranked No. 1 nationally per the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings.
