After their best season in over 20 years, Texas Tech women’s basketball will have a key piece back next season in the Big 12 block leader Jalynn Bristow, who announced she is returning for her senior season with the Lady Raiders.

Bristow posted on her social media “Staying Loyal to the Soil” with the caption: “Let’s run it back 1️⃣ more time Lady Raider Nation!!!”

A former four-star Top 100 recruit out of Holliday, Texas, Bristow originally chose Iowa State before transferring to Texas Tech after her freshman season. Her return marked a homecoming to West Texas, a theme she again referenced with her announcement today.

Bristow will enter her senior season coming off a breakout season where she averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, up from 3.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.3 blocks as a sophomore. She led the Big 12 in blocks and ranked seventeenth nationally, finishing with 69 total blocks — seventh-most in a single season in program history — to earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.

She is the lone returning starter and rotation player from Texas Tech’s NCAA Tournament team that ended the program’s 13 year drought, making its first appearance since 2013 and earned its first tournament win since 2004 when they beat Villanova in the round of 64. Bristow will now be looked to as veteran leader on a roster expected to include a mix of freshmen and transfers as Texas Tech looks to build on last season’s run.

Bristow gives the staff a nice piece to build with in the transfer portal that officially opens on Monday. The 6-2 uniquely skilled forward finished the season as one of only two players nationally to average at least 2.0 blocks per game while shooting over 30 percent from three and making 40+ threes. She recorded 16 double-digit scoring games, 12 games with at least three blocks (including games of six and seven), and two double-doubles this season.

The ceiling is the roof, or the sky or whatever Miss Loyal to the Soil wants it to be with that type of unicorn skillset in her bag.
