Louisville lands West Georgia QB transfer Davin Wydner
Louisville picks up a transfer portal commitment from former West Georgia quarterback Davin Wydner. The dual-threat has four years of college experience and deepens the Cardinals’ QB room.
Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz and true freshman Briggs Cherry were the only scholarship QBs on Louisville’s roster. Wydner might not be the day one starter, but he adds much-needed depth to this position group.
Wydner started his career at Ole Miss. Before arriving in Oxford, he was a three-star prospect at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne, Florida. Ranked as the 75th overall quarterback in the 2022 class, Wydner didn’t see any action in his two seasons at Ole Miss.
Transferring to West Georgia as a redshirt sophomore, Wydner played in 11 games his first year with the Wolves. Starting 8 games, he finished the year with 1,718 passing yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Wydner also added 249 yards on the ground and 7 rushing touchdowns.
Wydner followed up a solid 2024 campaign as a key to West Georgia’s success in 2025. He finished with an 8-2 record as the starter and hit career highs in multiple statistical categories. Wydner threw for 1,672 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions, along with 441 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
With 176 career rushing attempts, Wydner is a dynamic dual threat. Louisville has had its fair share of electrifying QBs in the run game with Lamar Jackson and Malik Cunningham, but it isn’t the traditional player for head coach Jeff Brohm.
Standing at 6 feet 5 and 220 pounds, Wydner will be lethal in designed run packages. Adding a new offensive gameplay when he checks into the game could be a huge advantage against opposing defenses.
Louisville holds the No. 2 overall transfer class with 23 incoming players. Wydner will open the 2026 season against Ole Miss, the team he started his collegiate career with.
