Louisville bolsters its secondary, securing a transfer portal commitment from former Murray State safety Dylan Rowsey.

The Cardinals add a solid depth piece to their safety room. Rowsey will stay in-state and finish his college career at Louisville.

Starting his career at Itawamba Community College, he was named All-MACC Honorable Mention. Transferring to Murray State for his junior season, Rowsey put up some monster stats.

Last season, he finished with 139 total tackles, ranking third among FCS players. His 89 solo tackles ranked first in the nation. Rowsey also added a pass deflection, a sack, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions. This amazing season earned him AP All-American honorable mentions.

The Rienzi, Mississippi native joins Iowa transfer Koen Entringer to help a safety room that lost a lot of production this offseason. Combining for 212 tackles between the two last season, the Cardinals won’t have a problem getting any players down. This new Louisville duo will need to fill the shoes of leading tackler D’Angelo Hutchinson, JoJo Evans, and Corey Gordon.

The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound safety was not only a tackle machine but also had a knack for finding the ball. Causing four turnovers last season, Louisville adds a turnover machine to its secondary.

Playing at a community college and at the FCS level, Rowsey will need to make a big adjustment to ACC football. Currently unranked in the transfer portal, but if the Cardinals’ coaching staff can see a smooth transition with his skill set, Louisville may have found a diamond in the rough.

This week is the dead period for recruiting, but it didn’t slow down the Cardinals. Rowsey is one of over 20 transfer portal players to join head coach Jeff Brohms’ top-5 ranked class.
