Miami freshman running back Girard Pringle is leaving the Hurricanes program and entering the NCAA Transfer Portal after one season in Coral Gables, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Pringle is coming off a standout first season, where he rushed for 375 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 6 yards per carry. He also caught four passes for 53 yards out of the backfield, adding another receiving touchdown as well.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder appeared in nine games as a reserve behind starter Mark Fletcher, who led the ACC with 1,192 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. But it was actually Pringle who led the ‘Canes in yards per attempt and looked primed for a bigger role in 2026.

Instead, he’ll enter the portal just two days after Miami fell to Indiana 27-21 in the College Football Playoff national championship game. With nearly all of the top running backs who were already in the portal now signed with another school, Pringle will be a hot commodity with three years of eligibility remaining.

As a high schooler, he was one of the most sought-after backs in the country, earning a four-star rating from all four major recruiting services. He was tabbed as the No. 118 overall recruit and No. 5 running back in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Pringle boasts elite top-end speed as well, clocking a 10.56 in the 100-meter dash at the prep level.

Portal entries beginning for the Hurricanes

Since Miami’s loss Monday night, they’ve seen a steady stream of players announce their plans to enter the portal. For teams who play in the CFP title game, players have five days to file their paperwork to enter the portal and go into college football free agency.

Seventeen Hurricanes have entered the portal as of Wednesday night, including a handful who did so in the midst of the team’s playoff run. Pringle is one of the biggest losses by far though, as the majority of others who have entered were not on the team’s two-deep depth chart this season.

Of those that have entered the portal, 10 have already found new homes including defensive lineman Donta Simpson (Missouri), cornerback Charles Brantley (Michigan State), and tight end Brock Schott, who signed with national champion Indiana.

On the flip side, Mario Cristobal and Co. have already signed six transfers of their own and are considered the favorite for one of the top available players: Missouri transfer EDGE Damon Wilson.
