The USC Trojans have officially signed the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class as defensive end Luke Wafle lands atop the final Rivals 300 for this cycle.

The 6-foot-5.5, 255-pound edge pushed his way to the top spot with a dominant showing at the Navy All-American Bowl, finishing as the Rivals MVP.

Of his performance throughout the week, Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said:

Luke Wafle entered the Navy All-American bowl as Rivals’ highest-ranked player on hand and more than lived up to that billing. The USC signee was dominant in practices throughout the week and carried that momentum into Saturday’s game. He was the clear top player during the most competitive periods over the week. During the action on Saturday, Wafle registered three sacks (a game record), three tackles for loss, multiple pressures, and a fumble recovery, en route to being named the game’s MVP. At 6-foot-5.5, 260 pounds, he looks like he could play major snaps in college football right now. Wafle was the most powerful EDGE prospect in San Antonio, detonating offensive linemen at the point of attack with his advance upper body strength. We also came away highly impressed with his twitch and get-off. Overall, the showing was fitting for Rivals’ No. 4 overall prospect and top-ranked EDGE signee in the 2026 cycle. Wafle looks primed to make an immediate impact for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans next fall.

The USC Trojans went all-in for Wafle during the recruiting process, beating out Ohio State in a back-and-forth battle for the coveted defensive lineman and pulling him all the way to Los Angeles out of New Jersey. When Wafle committed to USC back in June of 2025, he was the No. 14 overall player in the On300, and the nation’s No. 52 overall prospect and No. 10 edge defender in the 2026 Industry Rankings.

Now, he’s the headliner of a tremendous 2026 recruiting class and one of the signees expected to contribute immediately to a USC team that will take on a challenging schedule with designs on making the College Football Playoff. This is the first time USC has signed a No. 1 overall recruit by any of the services since quarterback Malachi Nelson finished as ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect in the 2023 class. Going back farther, quarterback Matt Barkley was the No. 1 overall player for ESPN in the 2009 recruiting class.
