Tennessee Golf earns spot in Championship final of fall SEC match play against Vanderbilt

On a back and forth afternoon at Old Overton in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Tennessee’s golf team outlasted Auburn to qualify for the championship match against Vanderbilt.

Led by Jake Hall, who finished a shot out of a playoff for the individual championship at 12 under, the golf Vols had the round of the day from any team shooting 12 under and finishing 2nd to only the Commodores in the stroke play portion.

That portion wins you nothing from a team perspective. The top two teams play a best of five match play round tomorrow.

Freshman Caleb Surratt had the round of the day from Tennessee shooting 5 under 65, while Cade Russell rebounded with a 2 under 68 to count toward Tennessee’s daily total.

Redshirt freshman Lance Simpson was second on the team in the stroke play portion earning his first top 10 in his second college tournament at 8 under overall.
