South Carolina women's basketball pledge competes in McDonald's All-American Game, debuts A'ja Wilson shoes
The McDonald’s All-American Game was on Tuesday night, and South Carolina women’s basketball commitment Jerzy Robinson took part in the all-star festivities.
The five-star prospect picked up recognition as one of the top practice performers in Phoenix. She earned a spot in the starting lineup for Team West.
Robinson didn’t have the most efficient day from the field on Tuesday night, but that shouldn’t instill panic in Gamecock fans. A’ja Wilson had a less-than-stellar shooting day in her McDonald’s All-American Game appearance in 2014.
However, despite her shooting struggles, Robinson showed off an ability to get into the lane, something that is an important skill for a bigger guard who uses her strong positional size to create mismatches. She also made a tough, contested mid-range shot. On defense, she advocated to be the one to guard No. 1 overall prospect Saniyah Hall.

During a sitdown with the ESPN crew calling the game, Robinson called the McDonald’s All-American opportunity a “dream come true.” She also said that she can’t wait to get to Columbia to begin her Gamecock career playing for head coach Dawn Staley.
“I think Dawn Staley is a dog,” Robinson said. “She did it as a coach, she did it as a player. She told me she was going to add to me, not take away…[I want her to add to] all elements. I’m there to go to college, to soak it all in, to be the best pro I can. She’s going to prepare me to do that.”

Robinson described herself as a “killer” on the court and explained how she grows the foundation for her game before she ever steps on the court.
“I go from the basketball court to the weight room,” Robinson said. “You’ve got to attack the weight room to build your body, build your base, and your foundation. My pops got me in there at a young age.”

Robinson also made headlines for debuting a player’s edition of A’ja Wilson’s A’One shoe during the All-American Game. The shoes were inspired by and celebrated her Samoan ancestry.
