South Carolina running back target Aiden Gibson sets official visit
Class of 2027 running back Aiden Gibson has set an official visit with the Gamecocks, continuing a strong in-state recruiting push for the staff.
Gibson, a three-star prospect out of Woodruff High School in Woodruff, S.C., announced via Instagram that he will take an official visit to South Carolina June 5-7. The visit puts the Gamecocks firmly in the mix early as Gibson’s recruitment continues to gain momentum heading into his senior season.
Earlier the same day, Gibson also announced an official visit to Penn State for June 12. The Nittany Lions are one of the newer programs to enter his recruitment, but they have quickly positioned themselves as a school worth monitoring moving forward for Gibson’s June visit schedule.
Despite holding a three-star ranking, Gibson has drawn significant interest from Power Four programs and is viewed by several college staffs as an undervalued prospect in the 2027 class. His offer list includes Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Indiana, NC State, and Maryland. He has since added offers from Virginia Tech and previously had one from Florida, with Penn State emerging as the most recent program to extend an offer.

Gibson’s production at the high school level supports the growing attention. During the most recent season at Woodruff, he rushed for 1,611 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing game, totaling 387 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. With one season remaining in his high school career, Gibson has already accumulated 3,931 rushing yards, fifty-two rushing touchdowns, and sixty-two total touchdowns.
South Carolina is also pushing for another priority running back from within the state in the 2027 class, signaling that the staff is open to taking more than one back in this cycle. Four-star Byrnes product David Tre Segarra III, widely viewed as the top running back prospect in South Carolina for 2027, has also set an official visit with the Gamecocks later this summer.
Segarra is scheduled to be in Columbia for an official visit June 19-21. Like Gibson, he is one of the most heavily recruited backs in the region.
