Class of 2027 Charlotte (NC) Providence Day School defender Robert “Tre” Geathers III is a name that has been on the South Carolina football recruiting board for some time.

On Thursday, he announced that he had scheduled an official visit with the Gamecocks. According to Geathers, he will be in town for that OV the weekend of June 12.

This spring, Geathers has taken unofficial visits to South Carolina, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and NC State. He experienced gamedays last fall at USC, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Nebraska, NC State, Penn State, and Clemson.

For those who follow football in the Carolinas and Georgia, yes, he is part of the famed Geathers family. His father (Robert) played at Georgia and in the NFL, his grandfather (Robert) played at SC State and in the NFL, his uncle (Clifton) was a defensive lineman at South Carolina and in the NFL, his great uncle (Jumpy) played at Wichita State and in the NFL, his uncle (Kwame) played at Georgia and in the NFL, his cousin (Carlton) played basketball at South Carolina, and his cousins (Clayton/Porcupine, Jarvis, and Jeremy) all played college football. That isn’t an exhaustive list, but it shows the athletic pedigree within the Geathers family.

Geathers is a bit of a “tweener” as a prospect. The rangy athlete stands 6-2 and weighs in at 200 pounds, but he has a frame that some believe will grow him into a linebacker. The Gamecocks, though, appear to be pursuing Geathers as a defensive back. He plays all over the defense at Providence Day.

The recruiting industry is split on Geathers’ positional future. Rivals and ESPN list him as a safety, while 247Sports rates him as a future linebacker.

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Geathers is the No. 567 overall player in the class of 2027. He is also No. 54 nationally among safeties. Geathers is the No. 20 prospect, regardless of position, in the state of North Carolina. He is a unanimous three-star recruit.
