South Carolina offers freshman running back with SEC bloodline
South Carolina football has offered a scholarship to a young prospect with an SEC bloodline. Class of 2029 Newton (GA) Covington running back Karter Lumpkin announced his offer on Thursday.
Lumpkin, whose father Kregg was a running back at Georgia in the mid-2000s, holds offers from several other power conference programs, despite his age. Joining the Gamecocks are his father’s alma mater, Florida, North Carolina, Florida State, and Auburn.
While there is still a long way to go in his recruitment, Lumpkin has already been to games at Georgia thanks to his father’s connection with the program.
However, Lumpkin has a connection to South Carolina, too. Current Gamecock defensive tackle Christian Ingram is a graduate of Newton High. Ingram will be a redshirt freshman this fall.

The Insiders Forum: Discuss South Carolina football!
Already 6-0 and 190 pounds, Lumpkin is a punishing, physical runner who will only become even harder to bring down as he gets older and adds more muscle. Because he was a first-year player, his role wasn’t as big this fall as it will be moving forward. Even with the lighter workload, his undeniable ability showed up on film.
Lumpkin runs through and over would-be tacklers two and three years older than he is. Rarely does one defender bring him down, and when it does happen, it comes at the expense of being dragged multiple yards after contact. His tape will surely be even more impressive next year.
Because he is in the class of 2029, Lumpkin does not have a rating in the Rivals Industry Ranking. However, he has a bright future ahead of him and likely won’t be under-the-radar for long in the recruiting world. Prep Redzone already lists him as one of the top running backs in the state of Georgia.
