South Carolina football offers class of 2029 Georgia quarterback
On Thursday, South Carolina football extended a scholarship offer to class of 2029 Carrollton (GA) quarterback Christian “CJ” Cypher. He announced the offer on social media. It marks the second ’29 cycle offer from new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kendal Briles. He joins Texas product Ty Snell in that regard.
Despite his age, Cypher has nearly 15 power conference offers already. Four of them have come in the last week.
The freshman signal-caller had a big-time debut season at Georgia’s highest level of competition. According to his profile on MaxPreps, Cypher threw for nearly 2200 yards and posted a ridiculous touchdown-interception ratio of 26-3. He led Carrollton to a runner-up finish to powerhouse Buford in the state playoffs.

Listed at 6-1 and 180 pounds, Cypher has a frame that can carry more weight. He already looks right at home playing against varsity high school competition, even though he is younger than most of his opponents.

Cypher has more arm strength and poise in the pocket than most young quarterbacks. He effortlessly can spin the pigskin 50 yards downfield, and he can complete passes even in the face of incoming pass rushers. He is a solid athlete with mobility, but Cypher typically uses that movement ability to buy time in the passing game, not just to take off and run.
Because of his place in the class of 2029, Cypher does not have a recruiting ranking. None of the major recruiting outlets have published rankings for the current freshman class.
Even so, Cypher seems destined for blue-chip status. Rivals’ Charles Power included him on his list of 2029 prospects to watch. He was one of just seven quarterbacks (joining Snell and South Carolina native Bear Woods, the younger brother of current Gamecock quarterback Cutter Woods) on Power’s list.
