South Carolina football recruiting target sets commitment date
There are only a few players left on South Carolina football’s 2026 recruiting board. On Friday, five-star Darius Gray will announce his college commitment, and the Gamecocks appear to be in the pole position. It won’t be long before another USC target makes his pledge, too.
On Thursday night, in-state tight end Caden Ramsey revealed that he knows when he will make his announcement. With a post on social media, the Cross High School standout stated that he will make a public commitment on September 8th. He will announce his pledge at 12:30.
Along with South Carolina, power conference schools like Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech have offered.
A more recent South Carolina offer, Ramsey is an intriguing, high-upside prospect. He is also a Gamecock legacy, with his cousin and uncle both being former USC athletes.

Ramsey stands 6-5 and weighs 215 pounds, but he is an impressive and smooth athlete. Showing off that athleticism, he is also a really good free safety for his Cross team. Offensively, he has played mostly wide receiver in high school, something that bodes well for his future playmaking ability.
Ramsey is a lower three-star recruit according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. However, Rivals is higher on the athletic tight end prospect than the rest of the industry. Sitting just below four-star territory according to Rivals’ rankings, Ramsey is the No. 20 national tight end. He’s also the 2026 cycle’s No. 7 player in South Carolina, regardless of position.
Carolina has one other tight end committed in the class of 2026. Four-star Newberry High School tight end Jamel Howse pledged his services to the Gamecocks last season.
