Damiere Byrd inks NFL contract with Buffalo Bills

Damiere Byrd‘s professional football career has taken him across the country over the past 10 years.

The former South Carolina wide receiver was initially signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He spent four years with the team before inking a deal with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2019 offseason.

Since then, he has suited up for the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons in regular season NFL games. He has also joined the Houston Texans’ and Washington Commanders’ rosters, in addition to second stints with the Panthers and Falcons, but only in a practice squad spot or for a limited time before suffering an injury.

This upcoming season, he may add another team to the laundry list of squads he has been a part of. Per a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Byrd signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills on Monday.

Fowler wrote that Byrd would serve as a “speedy WR” who would provide “return help” for the Bills. The Commanders, Byrd’s most recent team, released him from their one-year contract on July 31.

Byrd has appeared in 78 games across his NFL career, starting in 28 of them. He has accumulated 1,689 receiving yards and scored seven touchdowns on 130 total receptions. He most recently appeared in a regular season game on Nov. 5, 2023, when he was a member of the Atlanta Falcons.

Before playing professionally, Byrd was a member of the South Carolina football team from 2011 to 2014. He totaled 1,275 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 68 catches across those four seasons, in addition to competing on the Gamecocks’ track and field team.
