SMU lands commitment from Lone Star State edge Hudson Woods

Smithson Valley (Tex.) edge Hudson Woods committed to SMU after his official visit this weekend, he announced. The three-star prospect has taken numerous visits to the Hilltop, getting to see games, practice and the culture.

SMU edge rushers coach Sam Dunnam stood out to him throughout the process.

“The biggest thing is the culture that they have there,” Woods told On3 previously. “It was amazing as always. Practice was super entertaining. Looks like a lot of fun and I had a bunch of great talks with all the coaches. He (Dunnam) is an amazing coach. Someone I could definitely have coaching me.”

He was on campus in February for a huge recruiting day.

“I had an amazing time at SMU as usual,” Woods said. “They were very welcoming and always so real and genuine with me and my family. They have a lot of momentum and a great program that’s going to be competing for National Championships. The culture they are building there right now is amazing!”

Woods took official visits to Oklahoma State (April 25) and Northwestern (May 30) and has Wisconsin (June 13) on the docket. He’s the No. 72 edge in America and No. 72 prospect in Texas, according to On3.

Woods’ final stats from the fall include 13 sacks and 20 quarterback hurries.
