ABOUT INDIANA AS IT FACES PURDUE

• Heading into the Purdue game, the Hoosiers broke a four-game losing streak with a blowout win at Rutgers this weekend, but have shown real glimpses against good teams, dominating the first half at home vs. unbeaten Nebraska and really pushing Michigan State in East Lansing before falling in both games.

• In Year 1 under new coach Darren DeVries, IU is basically the opposite of past teams assembled by past coaches.

The Hoosiers are loaded with shooting, turning their program’s years-long Achilles into its defining characteristic.

Threes account for 51 percent of IU’s shots and 39 percent of its scoring. Indiana’s average of 29.4 three-point attempts is 24th-most nationally. Indiana shoots 36 percent from deep, 37 percent in Big Ten games.

The onslaught is led by seniors Lamar Wilkerson (19.4 points) and Tucker DeVries (14.6), who’ve each launched more than 160 threes this season, with Wilkerson in particular being particularly formidable due to his range and Carsen Edwards-like quick trigger. Wilkerson is a 42-percent three-point shooter on extraordinary volume and often degree of difficulty.

• As isn’t all that uncommon anymore in college basketball, Indiana has no players back from last season.

• Indiana is a 79-percent foul-shooting team, with each of its top six scorers shooting 77 percent or better.

• With a more five-out-oriented roster, Indiana isn’t particularly formidable on the interior. It’s been outrebounded on average in Big Ten play, blocks fewer shots than anyone but Penn State and doesn’t get many offensive rebounds.
