Penn State assistant coach Terry Smith has done it again.

After locking up Florida cornerback Semajay Robinson on Saturday, Smith went back to his hometown to add Pittsburgh native Zachary Gleason on Tuesday. Now, the longtime Nittany Lion assistant and former letterman has added a third cornerback to the class with the addition of New Jersey native Ka’ron Ceaser.

“I chose Penn State because I trust Coach [Matt] Campbell and the coaching staff to help guide me in the right direction outside of football,” Ceaser said. “On the field is what I can handle with my work ethic. But I trust them, and they’ve always been heavy on me.”

A three-star prospect who also happens to play for former Penn State letterman Bill Belton at Winslow Twp., Ceaser was back on campus Tuesday to watch spring practice. Joined by his mother, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back left campus with no shortage of praise for both Smith and Campbell. Add in the fact that the cornerback position is filling up quickly, and Ceaser was determined not to miss out.

“I liked how all the coaches are really on the same page with everything,” Ceaser told Blue White Illustrated following his visit. “They all say the same thing, and that means it’s real. They’re all about development and helping you be a better man after football and they coach you hard on every detail. I like that.”

After previously playing at Penns Grove as an underclassman, Ceaser helped lead Winslow Twp. to its second consecutive state championship. He played both slot receiver and running back on offense, but he’ll focus on defensive back in college. Ceaser finished with 29 tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions and two forced fumbles during his junior season.

Throughout his two-year recruitment, Ceaser totaled 18 scholarship offers. He previously scheduled official visits to Virginia Tech and Syracuse, but no longer plans to go through with those trips. He’ll take his official visit to Penn State the weekend of June 5-7.
