Downingtown DE Abraham Sesay earns five-star promotion
Penn State welcomed one of Pennsylvania’s top prospects to campus last Tuesday in defensive end Abraham Sesay. If all goes to plan for head coach Matt Campbell and his staff, Sesay could potentially end up being their first-ever five-star commit.
That’s because on Monday, the Downingtown East edge rusher was promoted to a five-star prospect by Rivals. Sesay was previously ranked No. 38 nationally, which put him just outside of five-star range. However, he’s now moved up 22 spots to No. 16 overall in his class. Sesay is also now the second-ranked defensive end for 2027.
“I’ve always loved Penn State football,” Sesay told BWI’s Sean Fitz last week following his visit. “Especially early on in my recruitment, a lot of people knew that I was really high on Penn State. I really enjoy Penn State. I’ve been there multiple times.
“When the coaches left, nothing really changed for me, but a lot of my recruitment started to pick up even more everywhere. So I kind of just needed to expand my horizons, visit as many schools as possible, so I know that I’m going to make the best choice. I’ve always had faith in Penn State. I’ve always enjoyed Penn State, I’ve always liked Penn State, so that’s why I came back. I really enjoy Penn State for what it is no matter who’s running it, but I’m glad it’s someone like Coach Campbell.”

Sesay added that him his mother made the trip last Tuesday to get a closer look at how things operate under Campbell.

“It was a great visit,” recalled Sesay. “Just being able to talk to all the coaches. They visited me prior at school and then I had a home visit with Coach [Christian] Smith and Coach [D’Anton] Lynn. It was definitely important for me to get down there to see the campus again and to see how they conduct practice and to see the whole new staff. Of course, I’ve been to Penn State many times, but it was very important to me and my family to check out the new staff and see what they’re building. So overall, it was an amazing visit.”
Listed at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Sesay was supposed to go to Notre Dame this past weekend, but flight issues forced him to cancel the trip. As of now, Duke is scheduled to host him for an official visit the weekend of June 5-7, while Notre Dame has an official visit locked in for June 19-21. South Carolina, Florida, Florida State, LSU and Miami all hosted him in April and appear to be the five schools Penn State is fighting to secure an official visit date.
“I’m going to try to work to find an OV date (to Penn State) that matches with me and my family. I definitely want to get there for an OV. It’s just getting scheduling aligned,” Sesay said.
