QUAAACK: Duck Legacy Sam Ngata Commits to Oregon
2027 4-star Salt Lake City (UT) Olympus athlete Sam Ngata is ready to follow in his father’s footsteps. The No. 12 athlete in the Rivals300 announced his commitment to Oregon on Saturday while on a visit in Eugene for one of two Junior Day recruiting events this month.
“All glory to God, I’m home,” the newest Duck told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.
Ngata was visited by the Oregon coaches Tony Tuioti and Chris Hampton in Utah this week as the coaches recruited across the country during the January contact period.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound prep was offered by the Ducks back in November when he visited for the USC game, which the Ducks won 42-27. During the trip he saw his father, Duck legend Haloti Ngata get inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
“Growing up, this was always my dream school and I’ve always loved Oregon,” he told ScoopDuck following the offer. “To get the offer it feels amazing and would love to follow in his footsteps.”

Ngata is ranked the No. 274 overall prospect and the No. 4 prospect in Utah according to the Rivals300. He chose Dan Lanning‘s Ducks over other schools like Cal, Utah and Michigan among others. Utah is a state Oregon has always prioritized on the recruiting trail, with the state bringing the Ducks notable former players like Jackson Powers-Johnson and Jeffrey Bassa, who both became NFL Draft picks during their college careers in Eugene.
The Duck legacy is the second commitment in Oregon’s 2027 recruiting class, joining 4-star Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson defensive lineman Cam Pritchett.
Ngata’s pledge gives Oregon much-needed spark in the 2027 recruiting class after the Ducks signed the No. 3 recruiting class in the Rivals rankings for the 2026 cycle.
