Oregon Set to Hire New RB Coach
Dan Lanning spent just about a week working on his next hire. And with little surprise, he seems to have found another highly respected coach in the industry.
With Carlos Locklyn off to Ohio State, Lanning worked quickly to fill the vacancy. While a ton of names were mentioned for the position, there was one that felt like the obvious and easy choice.
Arizona State assistant Ra’Shaad Samples emerged as a potential replacement almost immediately. It was reported earlier he was a leading candidate for the job. It was confirmed Sunday evening he was set to be the hire. 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz was first to report the hire.

Samples is young but is already well-recognized on the recruiting trail. At Oregon he will have a platform to work on some of the nation’s top talent. He’s well respected in a number of areas around the country including the state of Texas where Oregon continues to chip away at the top talent.
While Samples will handle the running back room at Oregon, he comes via Arizona State leaving as the pass game coordinator and receivers coach. Samples first burst onto the coaching scene as a running backs coach with Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams.
