Oregon DC Tim DeRuyter, secondary coach Marcel Yates headed for Texas Tech
Tim DeRuyter’s tenure as Oregon’s defensive coordinator is over.
FootballScoop reported early Monday morning that DeRuyter, Oregon’s defensive coordinator, will be the next defensive coordinator at Texas Tech.
In DeRuyter’s lone season at Oregon, the Ducks ranked fifth in the Pac-12 in both scoring defense at 25.5 points per game and yards per game at 370.7.
DeRuyter is in the first year of a three-year contract with the Ducks and earns $825,000 annually. Per his contract, he will earn a $15,000 bonus if he coaches the Ducks in the Dec. 29 Alamo Bowl.

He becomes the second Oregon coordinator to depart this week after Ducks’ offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead left to take the Akron head coaching job.
Shortly after the DeRuyter news broke Monday morning, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported Oregon secondary coach Marcel Yates will also join Joey McGuire’s staff at Texas Tech.
Yates was also in his first season at Oregon.
