OU upsets No. 2 South Carolina in overtime behind stellar performance from Aaliyah Chavez
No. 16 OU women’s basketball upset No. 2 South Carolina 94-82 in overtime thanks to a stellar performance from freshman guard Aaliyah Chavez.
Here’s how it unfolded.
OU hung with South Carolina in the first quarter, trailing 20-17 after the first 10 minutes. The Sooners then allowed a 10-0 run in the second quarter, falling behind 43-36 at the half. But they responded with one of the best quarters of the season, outscoring South Carolina 25-16 in the third to take a 61-59 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Sooners stayed hot to start the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to 73-67 with just under three minutes to play. But South Carolina responded with an 8-0 run to take a 2-point lead with 42 seconds remaining. Raegan Beers tied the game at 75 with 18.4 seconds to play, which ultimately forced overtime after a defensive stop.

Chavez took over in overtime. She hit four 3-pointers to help OU seal the win over No. 2 South Carolina, 94-82. Chavez with a game-high 26 points.
OU will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 25, on the road at Auburn. The game will be broadcast SEC Network.
