COLUMBUS — The Buckeyes have landed one of their top targets in the 2027 class. Four-star Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook linebacker Quinton Cypher chose Ohio State over Georgia.

Cypher was also considering Alabama and Miami but this came down to Buckeyes vs. Bulldogs at the end with linebackers coach James Laurinaitis winning out.

Quinton Cypher has been a top of the board target for Laurinaitis and the Buckeyes for a while. Laurinaitis has built a close relationship with not just Quinton but his parents and gotten them on campus multiple times. That relationship, those visits, and Matt Patricia’s defense are a big reason why Cypher committed to Ohio State.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Cypher is the No. 167 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings. Rivals ranks Cypher has the No. 260 overall prospect and No. 17 linebacker in the 2027 class.

Cypher joins an Ohio State defensive recruiting class that already features Four-star Cibolo (Texas) Steele safety Eli Johnson and three-star Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep athlete Angelo Smith. The latter is the younger brother of star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

The Buckeyes also have four-star Kellen Wymer from Liberty Center (Ohio), four-star offensive lineman Brody McNeel from Richmond (Va.) Godwin and three-star Mason Wilt from St. Clairsville (Ohio) committed along the offensive line. Five-star Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown and four-star Huntington Beach (Calif.) quarterback Brady Edmunds round out the class.
