Buckeyes receivers trade places on availability report for Penn State game
COLUMBUS — Ohio State will be getting one of its contributing wide receivers back in action for the game against Penn State on Saturday. But a rising receiving option will hit the shelf at the same time.
The Buckeyes will have third-year wide receiver Bryson Rodgers available for the Ohio State vs. Penn State matchup after he missed the last two games — wins over Illinois and Wisconsin on the road.
But just as Rodgers returns to action, the Buckeyes will be without freshman standout Quincy Porter. The first-year former five-star prospect caught two passes for 30 yards in the win over Wisconsin two weeks ago and figured to be an option as Ohio State looks to expand its wide receiver rotation.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day praised Porter following his performance.
“Yeah, I thought [Porter] handled that well,” Day said. “And the pivot he caught was a really nice route that he caught and ran it and made it into an explosive play. We were much more explosive on offense. I think we had double-digit explosive plays, and that was one of them. It was good to see him do that.
“That was really his first big action in a conference game, and I don’t think he flinched. I thought he handled it well and did a good job and graded out pretty well. So, that’s exciting. And I think Carnell and Jeremiah need some of that as the season goes on. It’s a long season, and they need that depth. It’s important. The team needs it. So he and Mylan [Graham], hopefully we’re going to get Bryson Rodgers back this week, these guys can help because we need them.”
Rodgers will return for the Buckeyes, but Porter will miss the game against Penn State. And the wide receiver rotation continues to be a question mark beyond the starting group.
