Buckeyes radio color commentator Jim Lachey to miss The Game
COLUMBUS — One of the most impressive Ohio State streaks will come to an end Saturday when the Buckeyes take on Michigan in The Game.
Buckeyes long-time color commentator Jim Lachey, who is on the radio with Paul Keels, will miss his first game since 1997 in order to attend the Senior Day festivities for his son Luke, who is a tight end for the Iowa Hawkeyes. They’ll face Nebraska on Saturday, and Lachey will be there rather than in Columbus for The Game.
Ohio State legend and former linebacker Bobby Carpenter will fill in for Lachey alongside Keels for this edition of the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry. Carpenter is a regular on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus.
According to Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope, this absence will be the first time in 357 games that Lachey won’t be on the call for a Buckeyes game.

Lachey, of course, is a former Ohio State lineman who was an All-American in 1984, a three-time first-team All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion.
But above everything else, he’s a dad to an Iowa tight end. And he’ll be at the Senior Day celebration for Luke instead of the Buckeyes game against Michigan. Iowa will play Nebraska at 7:30 p.m., while the Buckeyes host Michigan at Noon.
Lachey can’t do both, so he has decided to snap an impressive streak. It’ll certainly be worth it for the legendary Buckeyes lineman.
