Ohio State lands pledge from former Memphis guard Curtis Givens III
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is adding a key piece to the future of its backcourt depth: the Buckeyes landed a commitment from former Memphis guard Curtis Givens III on Thursday.
Givens III, a Memphis native who won a national title during his high school playing days at Montverde Academy, will have two years of eligibility after playing his freshman season at LSU and his second year at Memphis.
Last season, his lone year with the Tigers in which he appeared in 25 games and started in 15 of those games, Givens averaged 9.4 points per game while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range. He scored 14 or more points six times last year, including a career high 20 points against Ole Miss.
He started 12 games and appeared in 32 games during his freshman season at LSU. He averaged 4.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game during the year.
“I’m excited for Curtis to join our Buckeye family,” Ohio State coach Jake Diebler said in a release from the basketball program. “He fits what our program is about in every way. He’s an experienced two-way guard that will provide versatility in the back court.”

Givens was the No. 258 overall player and No. 49 point guard in his recruiting class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
He joins an impressive transfer portal haul for Jake Diebler’s program, one that includes former California star guard Justin Pippen, former Kentucky center Andrija Jelavić, former Duquesne guard Jimmie Williams and now the former Memphis guard Curtis Givens III.
