In-state SG Dorian Jones commits to Ohio State

COLUMBUS — One of the top basketball players in Ohio is headed to Ohio State.

Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Richmond Heights shooting guard Dorian Jones committed to Ohio State. The 6-foot-5 and 160-pound Jones chose the Buckeyes over Michigan, Missouri, Rutgers and several addition high-major offers.

Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler has been recruiting Jones since he was a freshman in high school and their relationship made the Cleveland native feel comfortable in Columbus.

“It helps a lot actually because he knows me inside and out, he’s been recruiting me since I was a freshman,” Jones said Lettermen Row about his relationship with Diebler in May. “So he knows me inside-out, and I know him inside-out. There’s just a bond there.”

Jones, the No. 71 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings, is the first commitment for Ohio State in the 2025 class and just the second high school commitment for Jake Diebler since being named head coach.

Both commitments have come from Cleveland area prospects. Four-star point guard Marcus Johnson, a top-30 player in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, out of Cleveland (Ohio) Garfield Heights committed to Ohio State in April and now Jones out of Cleveland (Ohio) Richmond Heights.

Jones has helped build Cleveland (Ohio) Richmond Heights into one of the top programs in Ohio high school basketball. He has helped lead the Spartans to three straight OHSAA Division IV state titles and a 73-13 record in the past three seasons.

Jones also plays for one of the top AAU programs in Ohio in All-Ohio Red, Jake Diebler’s former AAU program, on the Nike EYBL circuit. Jones averaged 7.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game this spring.

Ohio State has prioritized recruiting the state of Ohio under first-year head coach Diebler and Dorian Jones’ commitment is a result of that.
