Breaking down the record-setting numbers of Notre Dame QB signee Noah Grubbs

CJ Carr will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in 2026, but with Kenny Minchey expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal in January, the battle for No. 2 is wide open.

Redshirt Blake Hebert would be considered the betting favorite, if such a thing existed. Notre Dame could add 2027 commit Teddy Jarrard, who is likely to reclassify to 2026. If he follows through with it, then he’d sign in February and enroll in the summer.

Then there’s Noah Grubbs, who signed with the Fighting Irish earlier this month. He was committed to Notre Dame for a year and a half before putting pen to paper. Grubbs may rank as a three-star prospect, but all he’s done at the prep level is prove doubters wrong and break records in the process.

Only two passers in the history of Florida high school football have thrown for more than 140 career touchdowns. Those two are Grubbs and Tucker Israel from Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona (2011–14). Grubbs finished his career with 143 passing touchdowns, while Israel tossed 162.

That feat is impressive, but it’s not what Grubbs would point to first. If Grubbs is going to brag about his high school career, it would be about helping Lake Mary win its first-ever state championship on a last-second Hail Mary, which can be seen in the video below.

The play went viral on social media, and Grubbs and his two teammates who were involved in the score went on ESPN’s SportsCenter this week to discuss it.

To our knowledge, Grubbs — the 2025 MaxPreps Florida High School Football Player of the Year — is the only prospect on the Lake Mary roster who holds an offer from a Power Four program, making the Rams’ state championship win in the highest classification in Florida (7A) even more impressive.

Breakdown of Noah Grubbs’ records

State and county records can be tricky to track, as there’s no official stat website and schools are responsible for reporting statistics.

Lake Mary takes pride in reporting accurate stats, and their staff provided Blue & Gold with a list of records Grubbs set in his four-year career.

His career touchdown total is a Seminole County record, along with passing yards (11,537). Grubbs likely holds several more county records, but those two stats are confirmed.

Grubbs holds the Lake Mary record for single-season passes completed (234) and attempted (403) this season. He also has the career record for passes completed (756) and attempted (1,324).

He set the following Lake Mary school records in 2023: single-game passing touchdowns (8), single-game passing yardage (528), single-season passing touchdowns (49), single-season passing yards (3,677), most passes completed in a single game (31), single-season completions (207) and attempts (356).

Grubbs’ record as a starter is 39-12. His first game as Lake Mary’s starting quarterback was in Week 4 of the 2022 season.

One of Grubbs‘ most memorable games came during his sophomore season in 2023. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 528 yards with 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in a 76-60 triumph over Orlando-area rival Dr. Phillips.

Lake Mary broke through and reached its first-ever state championship appearance during Grubbs’ junior season. The Rams lost 52-19 in the title game, but on their way to the final contest, they knocked off rival Seminole and bested Dr. Phillips, a team that upset them earlier in the season.

After 53 career high school appearances and experiencing everything from the heartbreak of losing a state title to the triumph of winning one on a last-second Hail Mary, the 6-4, 208-pounder has seen it all at the prep level, and that experience could give him a leg up in the QB2 race in August. Enrolling early and participating in spring ball will only help.
