UNC Flips Irish Punter Adam Gibbs, Adds to 2026 Class
North Carolina continued its run of flipping Penn State commitments on Friday, landing Irish punter Adam Gibbs.
“To be the best, you have to work with the best,” Gibbs told Inside Carolina.
“UNC is mainly looking at me as a punter. But they are open to me doing all three [kicking jobs] if I compete.”
Gibbs — a 6-foot, 190-pound prospect from Newry, Northern Ireland — originally committed to Penn State in June after impressing at one of the Nittany Lions’ specialist camps.
This past weekend, Gibbs officially visited UNC.
A student at Abbey Grammar School in Newry, Gibbs has a background in soccer and Gaelic football, and only began American football last April.

The Tar Heels open the 2026 season against TCU in Dublin, Ireland.
Tom Maginness, who has handled punts for UNC since the 2023 season, is set to graduate following the season. Last offseason, fellow punter Jacob Horvath transferred to UNC from Eastern Illinois.
Gibbs joins a class that already includes kicker David Green.
Other former Penn State commitments who are set to sign with UNC next week are defensive backs David Davis, Jaziel Hart, and Julian Peterson.
