Nebraska adds massive OT Brian Tapu to 2025 class following decommitment from Oregon State

Nebraska has added a significant piece to their 2025 recruiting class with 6-foot-8- and 300-pound offensive tackle Brian Tapu from Leyton (Utah) West. Tapu is the first offensive lineman in the class for Nebraska, giving the Huskers a big anchor to build around for the rest of the class.

Following his official visit to Nebraska on June 14th, Brian Tapu said that Nebraska was at the top of his list. There was a feeling that he could commit to the Huskers at any moment, but he visited Oregon State the following weekend.

Tapu committed to Oregon State immediately following his official visit, but days later, he decommitted from the Beavers, seemingly putting Nebraska back in the driver’s seat for his commitment again.

“Nebraska is the right place for me because of Coach Raiola and Coach Rhule,” Tapu said. “It’s the people overall and the football facilities. It’s the community itself, too.”

Tapu becomes the 12th known commitment in the 2025 class for Nebraska. He is the first recruit targeted to play offensive line in the class. The Huskers are trending for other offensive linemen who could join Tapu.

Shawn Hammerbeck from Winner, S.D., took his official visit to Nebraska the same weekend as Tapu. According to On3’s RPM, the Huskers are leading for his commitment over Kansas State. Nebraska is also leading for Houston Kaahaaina-Torres, who took his official visit to Nebraska last weekend.

Tapu is considered a three-star offensive tackle according to the On3 Industry Ranking and is the No. 41 tackle in the nation and the No. 6 player in Utah overall.
