A trio of Mississippi State greats will be back in the Pro Bowl Games again this season.

Fans around the country have voted in three former Bulldog standouts to the Pro Bowl this year with quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive tackles Jeffery Simmons and Chris Jones all being selected on Tuesday morning. All three are now in the top five of most appearances in the game in State history.

Jones is now the record holder for most trips among State players as he surpassed his predecessor Fletcher Cox as well as CB Darius Slay for first. Jones has been selected to his seventh Pro Bowl and they’ve all come in the past seven seasons.

While the numbers are as pedestrian as Jones has had in his incredible career, the Kansas City DT has been the center of every team’s gameplan as the game wrecker in the middle of the defense. Jones has had 24 tackles this season and just 4.0 sacks which are the fewest since his Rookie season.

The Chiefs as a whole are having a tough season with the team missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Jones and his team had been to three Super Bowls in a row prior to this season with two wins during that stretch.

Also making the Pro Bowl is Prescott as he’s putting together another strong season as the leader of one of sports’ most recognizable brands – the Dallas Cowboys. While Dallas has just a 6-8-1 record and won’t be able to make the playoffs either, it’s been one of Prescott’s best seasons as a pro.

The legendary State QB has been performing at a high level despite the team’s struggles on defense. He has thrown for over 4,000 yards for the fourth time in his career with 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This season, Prescott broke the franchise record in completions and yards as he continues to shatter records across the board.

This is Prescott’s fourth Pro Bowl selection and the first since he made it in 2023. He is now tied with Simmons with the fifth most selections in school history.

Simmons, like his fellow Bulldog selections, is working through a tough year for his team. The Tennessee Titans are just 3-12 on the year, but this has been one of the most dominant campaigns for Simmons in his seven seasons.

His 16.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks are already the most he’s had in his career and he’s a sack away from his first double-digit season. Simmons also has 58 tackles which are the second most in his career behind last year’s 76 stops. He has forced two fumbles and even scored a touchdown this year as well.

The Noxubee County native made the Pro Bowl for the fourth time with back-to-back selections and four of the last five seasons. He was also named the Titans’ representative of the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award, an honor that Prescott won in 2022.

The Pro Bowl is now in its fourth season of flag football and special games that take place as the NFL moved away from a contact football game. This year’s event will take place in San Francisco and will be a part of the Super Bowl festivities as it takes place on Tuesday, February 3.
