Mississippi State point guard Kanye Clary enters transfer portal

The basketball transfer portal officially opened on Monday and Mississippi State’s first entry of the offseason was not a surprise. Junior point guard Kanye Clary, who played in only seven games this season, entered the transfer portal to conclude his brief tenure with the Bulldogs.

The 5-foot-11 and 190-pound Clary spent his first two seasons at Penn State before transferring to Mississippi State last summer. The Virginia Beach, Va., native was Mississippi State’s first transfer commitment when he made that decision last April.

At Penn State, Clary averaged 3.6 points a game in his freshman season before having a breakout sophomore season with the Nittany Lions. In that sophomore campaign, Clary averaged 16.7 points and 2.8 assists a game.

At Mississippi State, Clary played in seven games, including four starts, before a reported injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. Clary averaged 18.7 minutes a game and also averaged 6.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in those seven games. Clary shot 36/8% from the field, made 2 of 10 from 3 point range and made 14 of 20 at the foul line.

With Clary moving on, that currently leaves the Bulldogs with rising junior Josh Hubbard, rising senior Riley Kugel and rising sophomore Dellquan Warren in the backcourt. The Bulldogs lose Claudell Harris to graduation and last November, the Bulldogs signed 2025 guard prospects King Grace and Cameren Paul.
