They Said It
“You have a coach (Bellamy) who has played the game and taught the game. He comes from a high school background in coaching, so those guys are typically developers. They communicate a little bit differently. They break things down in a little more detail. He can speak from rudimentary all the way up to the high level intricacies of playing receiver. When we talked to him, he told us he watched (Jaylen’s) first game and saw what he did. He said he liked what he saw. I asked him how he breaks down skill vs. scheme, and we had a really insightful conversation about what it’s like to evaluate an athlete. Jaylen’s a high level skill wise and plays in a scheme that allows him to play at a high level because they throw the ball around and have a good quarterback.” — Willie Pile
Scouting Report
“He does a good job of catching the ball away from his frame. He is very comfortable plucking the football. He has a nice frame. He can add some more weight. He has to become more nuanced in boxing out defenders and being more physicality at the top of his routes instead of trying to separate with twitch and suddenness. That’s not his game. He has to be more physical. He won’t be a burner or long-speed merchant. You see him catch the ball away from his frame, and you see the natural ball tracking.” — On3 Rankings Assistant Cody Bellaire
