Bio Blast: Meet three-star Michigan long snapper signee Colton Dermer

Three-star Phoenix (Ariz.) O’Connor long snapper Colton Dermer officially signed with Michigan on Wednesday.

Recruitment

Michigan hosted Dermer for a visit this summer and earned a commitment in June. He picked Michigan over an offer from Alabama. Michigan special teams coach JB Brown led the way in his recruitment.

“Michigan has been a dream of mine. My grandpa was the biggest Michigan fan you could think of. The first gift I got from him was a Jabrill Peppers jersey. It’s kind of a family tradition. I had an opportunity to go there, and it was the only thing I wanted to do. It seemed like the right place. I feel like it’s an amazing fit.”

“He’s elite. Michigan wouldn’t have been looking at him if he wasn’t. Rankings are rankings, but I personally think he’s the best 2026 (long snapper) in the country. He’s an absolute stud. He’s 6-foot-2, 240 pounds and a great athlete. He snaps and spins a great ball — high velocity and very accurate. He’s as elite as you can get. He has been a Michigan fan since birth, so this couldn’t have worked out any better I see it is an easy, positive transition. He comes from a great family. It doesn’t hurt that Michigan is a team he’s dreamed of playing for. When Dom (Zvada) is back here for break, Colton gets in work with Dom. There is familiarity there. “Dermer is a freak in the 2026 class. He checks every box a coach could possibly want and then some. This is why he is on scholarship to the University of Michigan. Dermer’s a strong snapper who rips the cover off the ball. At the 2025 Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp, he snapped every ball with tight rotation. Dermer has a rare combination of size, athleticism, and snapping talent. During the athletic testing portion of camp, he ran a 4.93-second 40-yard dash.
