Miami Hurricanes Add Offensive Line Help With Georgia Transfer Jamal Meriweather
The Miami Hurricanes chased several offensive tackle prospects this portal season. And now UM has added Georgia’s Jamal Meriweather, who has mainly played backup guard in his three years at UGA but at 6-7 and 305 pounds likely will fit in moreso at tackle in Coral Gables. He’s played 77 career reps in Athens, per Pro Football Focus.
Meriweather was a need for the Canes given some uncertainty with depth at the tackle position given Markel Bell could opt for the NFL and Francis Mauigoa is also departing. So there are some depth/experience question marks at the position. Guard Samson Okunlola has gotten plenty of backup reps and could play tackle, probably his more natural position, but if he does then that leaves a hole at guard where Matthew McCoy returns but Anez Cooper departs. That’s it in terms of returning guards/tackles with experience at UM.

At center Ryan Rodriguez could get a sixth year as a medical redshirt, with SJ Alofaituli also battling there.
Others could emerge as well, of course, as UM has a lot of young offensive linemen on the roster looking to step up.
Meriweather visited Miami Jan. 17 and was sold. He played in six games off the bench at guard for Georgia this season, and working in for 56 reps he had a 56.7 grade per Pro Football Focus (72.5 pass block, 54.4 run blocking).
Meriweather was rated a 3-star prospect in the Class of 2023 out of Brunswick (Ga.) High School.
